Discussion and Interaction Program on Local Governance and Planned Development Held
The local government election being held in three phases is electing people’s representatives at local level. From the participation of people in voting, it has become obvious that people were eagerly waiting to select their leaders. However, due to 20 years gap between the last local election and the recent one, the newly elected representatives need refreshment training/course on governance and development. In particular, one of the major challenges of local governments here onward is to generate and mobilize its resource based on its own policy.
In this regard, to further capacitate and strengthen these newly elected representatives and staffs, an orientation program was organized on 23 August, 2017 by Namsaling Community Development Center (NCDC) at Charikot, Dolakha. Facilitated by Mr. Khem Raj Nepal, Governance Expert and former secretary of Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development (MoFALD), the program was attended by elected representatives and staffs of Bigu and Kalinchowk Rural Municipalities, District Coordination Committee (DCC) along with journalists and media representatives.
To ensure the accountable delivery of local services, the major highlights of programs were: local government and resource management; current issues; major provisions in constitution, policy; government interventions; as well as the anticipated challenges of upcoming province councils, etc. In addition to the discuss program, district level coordination among the stakeholders for profile and development of multi-year plan formulation of the Kalinchowk Rural Municipalities (RM) was also done.
The event was jointly organized and accompanied by Gramin Tuki Sangh – Dolakha and CIWIN-Nepal.
